Every solar grid connection in Brisbane needs an approved application to Energex before your system can export power, and a meter change before you earn feed-in credits. Crusader Electrical & Air handles the whole process as part of our installations, as a licensed electrical contractor (Lic. No. 91149).

Getting this step wrong is one of the most common causes of solar delays. Export limits, inverter settings and metering all have to line up with your network connection agreement, and the paperwork has to be right the first time.

Solar Grid Connection in Brisbane: How the Grid Connection Process Works

For most residential systems we submit a connection application to Energex, which is typically processed within 5 to 20 business days. Once approved, your electricity retailer arranges the meter reconfiguration for bi-directional metering, so exports are credited to your account. Your system can power your home in the meantime, but feed-in credits only start once the meter is done.

Larger systems, three-phase installations, and properties with export limits have additional requirements. We set the inverter to comply with AS/NZS 4777 and the connection conditions Energex applies to your property.

What We Handle for You

We prepare and lodge the Energex application, supply the compliance documentation including the Certificate of Test, configure export settings, and coordinate with your retailer on the metering change. If your switchboard needs work to meet connection requirements, our switchboard upgrade team handles that as part of the same job. Network connection requirements are published by Energex.

Solar Grid Connection FAQs

How long does an Energex solar connection take?

Most residential applications are processed in 5 to 20 business days. The retailer’s meter reconfiguration happens after approval, and feed-in credits start from that point.

Can I use my solar before the grid connection is approved?

Once the physical installation is complete and safe, your system can supply your home. Exporting to the grid, and earning feed-in credits, only starts after approval and metering.

What is an export limit?

Some properties are approved to export only a set amount of power to the grid, or none at all, depending on local network capacity. The inverter is configured to respect that limit. An export limit does not stop you using your own solar power.

Do I need to deal with Energex myself?

No. We lodge the application, provide the compliance documentation, and coordinate the metering change with your retailer as part of the installation.

Grid connection is included in every install on our solar and battery installation page. Call 07 3060 9105 with any connection questions.
