Installing solar panels, a battery system, or an EV charger adds significant demand on your electrical system. In many cases the existing switchboard simply does not have the capacity or the spare circuits to accommodate this safely. Before any of these installations, a switchboard assessment is always recommended.
Burning smell or scorch marks near the board
This is a serious warning sign. Any burning smell, discolouration, or scorch marks around your switchboard should be treated as urgent. Do not ignore it. Call a licensed electrician the same day.
What Does a Switchboard Upgrade Involve?
A switchboard upgrade typically involves replacing the existing board with a modern enclosure, installing new circuit breakers, adding safety switches (RCDs) to all required circuits, and labelling every circuit clearly. In some cases the upgrade will also include replacing old wiring that no longer meets current Australian Standards.
